Pre-Nursing
Applications for Fall 2008 - Nursing (Traditional Program) to begin August 2008, will be accepted February 1 – 29, 2008.
General Information
Applicants for both programs are admitted to the School of Nursing on a competitive basis for a limited number of slots. The Traditional Program admits approximately 80 students each Fall and Spring Semester. The Fast Track Program admits 30-40 students each May. Fast Track applicants must have completed the Texas Core and have a Bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing area in order to be eligible.
Selection for the Traditional Program is made from the applicant pool based on: Science GPA, Prerequisite GPA, NET Reading Score, NET Math Score and UTEP GPA.
Students who are ready to apply to the Traditional Program may call 747-5290 to schedule an optional advising appointment or visit the Academic Advising Center on a walk-in basis. Academic Advisors work with Pre-Nursing students in applying to the Nursing Program. For more information contact Ms. Kaay Miller, Pre-Health Professions Coordinator, UTEP Academic Advising Center, (915) 747-5290, or akmiller@utep.edu .
Nurse Entrance Test (NET)![]()
A valid NET score must be on file (current within two years of application) or the applicant must take the NET. Information on taking the NET at UTEP is posted on this web site. The NET is offered at the UTEP Testing Center at least twice a month throughout the entire year. A “Study Guide for the NET” is on one-hour reserve at the UTEP Library and in the Health Sciences Building ILC (Independent Learning Center). Copies are also available for sale at the UTEP Bookstore.
Prerequisites and Admission to UTEP
All prerequisites must be completed and on record in Goldmine prior to entering the Program. Applicants must be accepted to UTEP and transcripts must be evaluated by Admissions no later than the end of the application period. Please note that it takes two to four weeks to have transcripts evaluated, and this will not be done until ALL application materials and transcripts have been received by the Admissions office. All official transcripts must be submitted to the UTEP Admissions Office.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY TRANSCRIPTS TO THE SCHOOL OF NURSING.
Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to the professional program at UTEP. Students seeking admission by transferring to UTEP should note that the two application processes (1) to the University of Texas at El Paso and (2) to the School of Nursing are separate and independent. Current UTEP students must submit the School of Nursing Application, but no application to UTEP is required.
For additional information on the admission, application process and the lower division requirements, contact the following office. Academic advising is encouraged to ensure enrollment in acceptable courses and optimal degree progression.
