Doctorate of Science in Nursing (Pilot Program)
The Doctor of Science in Nursing degree is a cooperative offering of UTEP School of Nursing and The University of Texas at Houston-Health Science Center School of Nursing. Students complete applications to both institutions. Applicants must have a Master of Science in Nursing degree. The DSN degree includes 65 hours of coursework and is awarded by UT Houston.
The DSN research work has a clinical focus. Students from the El Paso area are able to take some their coursework at UTEP or at the UT Houston School of Public Health outreach site in El Paso. At this time, several courses are being transmitted via interactive TV to El Paso and one research course is totally presented on the Web. Students travel to Houston at least 2 times per semester for orientation, to meet with faculty and to do presentations related to their coursework.
