RN to MSN Option

Associate degree nurses (ADN) or diploma-prepared registered nurses with a bachelor’s degree in another field from an accredited university are eligible to apply directly to the MSN program.
The RN to MSN option is a uniquely designed degree path for graduates of an accredited associate degree nursing (ADN) or diploma program who wish to become advanced nursing professionals.  This option meets the essentials of undergraduate education but does not include the traditional bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree.

Admission process:

  • Apply to UTEP as an undergraduate student
  • Once admitted to the university, successfully complete the university core requirements
  • Upon completion of university core, enroll and successfully complete the five online Professional Nursing Courses
  • In last semester of professional coursework, apply to the Graduate School and identify specific Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Major.  A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree will not be awarded.

The nurse practitioner (NP) major is highly competitive and acceptance into this major is not guaranteed for the RN-MSN applicant.  Because of this, we recommend that students who desire entry into the NP major consider the RN-BSN track prior to application to the NP major.

Unique Features:

  • Time-saving option for registered nurses planning on graduate studies
