The School of Nursing (SON) started as the Hotel Dieu Training School for nurses in 1898, the first nursing school in El Paso, and joined The University of Texas at El Paso in 1976. The multicultural diversity of the SON’s  faculty, staff, and student body creates a rich learning environment. With bachelor’s and master’s programs we serve close to 700 and graduate over 360 students annually. In Fall 2011, we admitted the first cohort of doctoral students into the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.

Our guiding principles are excellence in everything we do, innovation to compete in the global healthcare environment and diversity as our greatest resource. The school is cutting-edge in educational delivery with its state-of-the-art Simulation Center and flexible, accessible graduate education. The location on the US/Mexico border offers unique and diverse opportunities for clinical experience and research.

Both graduate and undergraduate nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and UTEP is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Excellence – Innovation – Diversity
